Anybody read 'em? It's a five-book series (so far) about these recombinant, genetically modified birdkids. They're 98% human, 2% bird. There's six kids- Max, Fang, and Iggy (<3) are fourteen, Nudge is eleven, Gazzy is eight, and Angel is six- and they're constantly fighting for their lives.

It's a series meant for "ages ten to one hundred and ten" and it's one of my favorite young adult series. Like, ever.

(For those of you who have already read the books: I am a Fax fan. And I'm borderline obsessed with Iggy. I have a thing for pyros. Wink)

It's by James Patterson; it's his first young adult novel.

I've heard before he was good. I think my mom has a book of his.

There is a LOT of Fax in the fifth book. *squeals fangirlishly* And Iggy continues to be awesome, Nudge continues to be annoying, Gasser continues to be...well, Gasser, and Angel continues to be freaky. And rebellious.

:::DISCLAIMER:::
Don't flame me, please. This is just my opinion, and I was reluctant to share it in the first place.

Well, it's like Stephanie Meyer attacked a word processing program with her handy-dandy thesaurus. The writing is juevenile, at best, and her repeated use of the SAME adjectives (In Midnight Sun, she uses the word "chagrined" about thirteen times) drives me completely insane.

For another thing, she completely took the term "vampire" and twisted it. Vampires aren't supposed to sparkle. They're supposed to be, you know, discreet. Sparkling doesn't do that. And even though that only happens "in the sunlight" or whatever, the luminiscent lights at the school would definitely be shining off of them.

Speaking of school, the Cullens wouldn't even be able to attend high school. It's called a permanent record.

All the female characters are weak. Bella depends on Edward for EVERYTHING and everybody else is so shallow and vague that nobody cares about them. Even Mike and Tyler, Bella's friends, are developed with a little more personality than the females at her school, who are deemed as unimportant. Esme is essentially useless, other than to be Carlisle's mate. Rosalie is-of course- the damsel in distress, who is now bitter. Yay. Leah, the book's ONLY HOPE for a real strong female character, when turned into a werewolf, she was determined to be "menopausal and annoying." Another thing about Leah- she had her heart broken, and nobody cared, but when Jacob- HEAVEN FORBID- gets rejected, the entire pack practically coddles him. I guess you could say that Alice is a strong female character, and she is, in comparison to the others in the book. But when compared to someone like, say, Buffy, she's pretty weak.

Reneesme's existence is virtually impossible. Edward is a CORPSE, essentially. There is no way he could have fathered children after so long. If SMeyer wanted to wave away this discrepancy with "it's just fantasy," that would have been acceptable. But she tried to explain it with science. One of my acquinatances took the time to very accurately explain why her science and logic fails.

The characters are very poorly developed, other than the fact that they're OMG GORGEOUS!!!!1!one! SMeyer describes Bella as "smart" because she reads books like Wuthering Heights, but Bella never makes any reference to ANYTHING intelligent, or even anything other than Edward or herself. The rest of the characters are so appalingly inadequate that it frankly frightens me.

The only reason the books are popular is because girls like to picture themselves in the arms of an absolutely gorgeous guy for eternity. But the sad thing is that all the fangirls think that the books are a gift to literature. Which, they are not.

And yes, I have read all the books in hopes that I would like them better, or that an actual PLOT-other than turning into a vampire and OMGGORGEOUS!!!!one!1!!!!- would develop.

Not in comparison to the other characters in the book, like I said. But compared to nearly every other female character in any other series, she's not exactly strong. O.o

I think everything could have been developed better. Stephanie Meyer said that it only took her about six months to write, edit, and send her book off to the publishers. Most other authors need at least twice that long. She was completely riding on her fanbase for the success of the books, because, without that, they wouldn't be so hyped up.

Angel...
*shudder shudder*

The only thing I'm saying about her is, "It only gets worse."

Fang is awesome. Iggy is ten times better. :3 *nod nod*

Me and Steph have been talking about this in this thread as well. ^^ I just finished the sixth book a couple of weeks ago.
